As Porter and Chesney moved forward, she kept looking back for signs of trouble. Seeing the two agents she spotted getting up and walking in their direction sure qualified in her mind.

“Get ready,” Porter said. “The guy at the cafe and the other guy both got up and are moving this way.”

Chesney took a quick peek back, noticing they were walking at a brisk pace. “We’re gonna have to pick it up.”

“Just make sure they’re not pushing us into something, like some friends up ahead.”

“I got it.”

Chesney started walking at a faster rate, almost starting to run, as he kept his eyes peeled for guns pointed out a window or from above a rooftop. Porter kept her eyes peeled to see if the two men following them had picked up any additions on the way. There was no sign of anyone else at that point. That would soon change, though.

They went another twenty yards before that vehicle that Porter thought belonged to the agents showed up again. It came zooming at them from the direction they were traveling in. With how fast it was going, there was no doubt in Chesney’s mind that it was coming for them. It wasn’t just a car from one of the locals. There was power and bad intent behind it.

Chesney started picking up the pace as he began to run, looking like he had no intention of trying to avoid the oncoming car. Porter followed right behind, not questioning the move. She did look back a few times, noticing their followers were picking up the pace right along with them. Just as the car picked up some more speed and looked like it was going to barrel right into them, Chesney changed directions.

“Crossing!”

“What?!” Porter replied, though there was no time for a response.

Chesney was already going. For Porter, it was either blindly follow and hope he knew what he was doing or stay there on her own. She quickly decided to follow, crossing the street as well. The oncoming car hit the brakes, squealing its tires as it desperately tried to change directions. As the car came to a stop, the back bumper collided into the pillar of a building, rocking it slightly. Before changing course, the back window rolled down, and a gun pointed out of it, taking aim at Porter and Chesney, firing a few quick shots, hoping something would land.

The shots ripped into the wooden buildings behind Porter and Chesney, pieces of wood flying into the air all around them. Both former agents immediately returned fire at the car as it started coming at them again. Porter and Chesney then started taking fire from the two agents on foot who were still coming at them. After exchanging fire with them, Porter and Chesney turned the corner to try to escape their pursuers. By this point, all the locals who had been on the street had retreated into whatever building was nearest to them to avoid the battle.
